O D E R - W A R T A REMEMBRANCE C O N N E C T S The region on the rivers Oder and Warta is a unique and surprisingly diverse memorial landscape. Located not far from Berlin, on both sides of the German-Polish border, around 200 sites tell the story of a region shaped by knightly orders, Prussian military history, agricultural and industrial developments, the Second World War, Poland‘s westward shift, socialist dictatorship, the Cold War, German reunification, Poland‘s accession to the EU, and peaceful neighbourliness, exchange and coop- eration. In addition, the region offers a charming natural land- scape along the rivers Oder and Warta, which flow to- gether at the former fortress of Küstrin. REMEMBERING CONNECTS Oder-Warta provides fas- cinating insights into regional history from different per- spectives, closely linked to global events. Three epochs are of particular importance for the Oder-Warta region: The Oder-Warta region fascinates as a multi-perspective remembrance landscape with plenty of space for multifaceted German-Polish history. „Remembrance connects“ is the motto for encounter, confrontation with one‘s own history, open cross-border exchange as well as the freedom to jointly shape a com- mon future in peace and democracy.
